Vacations

The soft thump of a coconut as it falls from a palm tree and the sparkling waters of the sea as it laps at the shore. These are just two of the sounds and images of those wonderful, memorable island vacations. Who wouldn’t enjoy a trip to Tahiti, Hawaii or an island in the Caribbean?

Island vacations can conjure up many lovely thoughts especially while getting stressed out at the workplace, or sitting in the crazy rush hour traffic. A vacation on a tropical isle is the perfect antidote to the stress and anxiety of our everyday lives. It’s much better and more effective than what the doctor would prescribe. And, the side effects are very enjoyable.

Tropical islands are what most people think of when someone mentions island vacations. The Tahitian islands of French Polynesia are described to be like Hawaii was 50 years ago. Although they are becoming more modern and more hotels are being built even on the outer islands, Tahiti still has a very slow paced lifestyle. Most Tahitians are laid back and easy to get along with. After a visit to these islands, it’s very difficult to come back home to the real world of everything being in a hurry.

Hawaii is still a popular destination for a beautiful island vacation for those who want to stay in the states. Waikiki is busy and very touristy, but it’s fun, and the weather is heavenly. It’s a must to try to visit the other Hawaiian Islands as well. Waikiki shouldn’t be anyone’s whole view of Hawaii.

The sound of the steel drums is so special in the Caribbean islands. With the hot weather lasting year round, there’s seldom a need to pack a jacket when going to these islands. Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao have the advantage of being hurricane-free, so you can go there any time of the year without the worry of the terrible storms that can still ravage the other islands. Nevertheless, all of these islands in the Caribbean are special and beautiful in their own way. They have Dutch, French, Spanish and British backgrounds which makes each of them a unique place.

Now that some of the popular tropical islands have been mentioned when discussing island vacations, you shouldn’t forget the many other islands in the world that are not tropical. These islands are very different and still picturesque even without the tropical sunshine. Consider taking a trip to Greenland. Not too many people do. It’s the largest island in the world but still has a small population just living on the edges of the coastlines. Most of the island is ice with glaciers. The people are Danish, Greenlandic or both and live a very incomparable life in a place that is still hard to get to even with modern travel.

Think about the island of Tasmania in Australia, or the Faroe Islands in the North Atlantic. If you do some research of the world, you will find many obscure islands to visit that will give you an experience unmatched by any other trip you have ever taken before.
